Green-eyed Gossip

Beware of Lady Gossip
Concealed in the shadows,
Green eyes glinting
Eager to destroy her prey

Her gnarled roots entangle conversation
Poisoning the hearts of
speaker and hearers
Forming bent, twisted opinions

Secrets are her perfume
Eagerly wafting from her wrists
The stench cannot be contained

Her whispers are sickeningly sweetened
By the words, "I'm only telling you this
so you'll know how to pray."

Lady Gossip talks too much.
She has broken confidences
And divided close friends.

Beware of Lady Gossip
Lest she tear you apart.

This poem is part of my April Poetry Challenge. In honor of National Poetry Month this year, I'm writing lots of poetry and posting a new poem every day in April! Read more of my poetry here.
